I was sitting in my backyard the other night feeling defeated, feeling hopeless, and feeling drained. The guilt and shame of my past has been there, whispering in my ear, you are never going to be different, you can never measure up, and you will never make others proud! I realized that in my life, I have given more credit to the devil for how he has destroyed than I have to God. I have believed the lies that I can't be different, that I can't measure up, that I will never make others proud! That's all they are though, lies that the enemy is putting in my head, because God is a God of truth not of lies! He is not a God that causes us to doubt. He does not bring us confusion. 1 Corinthians 14:33 says, For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
The more that I sit and dwell on my past and my guilt, the more I am giving credit to the devil. 1 John 3:8 tells us, He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. God wants us to have peace. He wants for us to obey His word and put our faith in Him daily. I cannot concentrate on the confusion and the lies but instead I must turn to God. When confusion comes we must take authority over it by believing on the promises God has given us. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 says, For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
As I start this new year, I'm going to start a new beginning also. I may have setbacks in my life. With the Lord's help, I'm not going to let anything keep me from picking up the broken pieces and start to build them again. One piece at a time, one day at a time. My pastor preached a great message yesterday on how we are either coping through our lives or hoping. I'm tired of coping through life. Coping through life gives us an excuse to continue living the way we know we should not be living. Having hope through life gives us the strength to put our trust In God, the only true way of life! He knows we cannot do it on our own. He wants us to depend on Him and when we are weak, we must look to Him to make us stronger.
2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
